Description
This 25-page cookbook is part of the library's papers of Robert Alonzo Brock (1839-1914), a historian, antiquarian, and avid collector of Virginiana. Brock started his collection before the Civil War and added materials up to the time of his death, accumulating nearly 50,000 manuscripts relating to Virginia and the history of the South. The cookbook was compiled by the Peachy family. Names associated with the book include Mary Andrews, Anne Blair Banister (1746-1813), and Mary Monro Peachy (1763-1836). The recipes mostly focus on meat dishes, particularly of veal, but also dishes made with beef, chicken, pork, rabbit, and turkey. There are also recipes for desserts and instructions for various ways of preserving food, especially pickling.
