Description

This receipt book contains culinary, cosmetic, medical, and household recipes. It is in two volumes, the first containing entries from 1776 to approximately 1815, the second from 1781 to approximately 1827. Both volumes were begun by Mrs. Elizabeth Nicolls in the last quarter of the eighteenth century and amended and altered by a number of successive owners and users over the course of more than half a century. The volumes contain numerous tipped-in manuscript notes and letters as well as pasted-in newspaper clippings. Also included, in a separate envelope, are additional leaves originally laid into the volumes and a small envelope with a lock of "Harry's Hair."
