iron

Date Details
Many of the grillirons noted in 300 Years of Kitchen Collectibles (Franklin 446) were made of wrought iron and contained various designs and patterns within their grids. The grill pan or grillrion noted above is a manufactured cast iron object that had no legs and a very short handle and therefore was meant to sit over a level heat source (stove) rather than an open hearth. Although a specific date for this item could not be obtained, based on the dates of production of cast iron cooking tools such as this item, the date of the object can be narrowed to a period from the mid-nineteenth century to the early 1900's.
