The first 13 pages of this book comprise culinary recipes written in a beautiful hand; the remaining 5 pages of the book contain both medical and culinary recipes written in several undistinguished hands. Two of the medical recipes are dated, one September 26, 1818 and another January 6, 1820; these dates appear adjacent to abbreviations, which probably refer to publications from which the recipes were paraphrased. A third recipe is credited to The Edinburgh Medical & Surgical Journal July 1813. The culinary recipes are standard for the early nineteenth century. They include To make Mushroom Powder, A Receipt to pickle White Wall-nuts, To collor A Pigg, To make Stoughton's Drops, and For Scotch Collops.
