Description
A manuscript cookbook in multiple hands. An inscription on the fly-leaf reads: "The first part of this receipt book is in her [Lady Anderson's] handwriting. It is noticeable that many of the receipts are from Cheshire families, her own County, Cholmilzs, Brooks, Whitmore +c." Most of the entries are for medical formulas. Examples are: "To Make Shamroucks Water", "Mrs. Cope for the Bite of a Mad Dog", and "For Eyes sore or Enflam'd with Rhume or Waterish Humors". Other entries are recipes for various wines, preserves, jellies, cakes, and other dishes. Examples include: "To Mak Cloutted Cream", "To Pickle oranges", "To Dry English Figgs", and "To Make chese Pufes".
