Elizabeth Hale Huse kept these diaries from 1831 to 1857 (with gaps), while living in the Beacon Hill section of Boston, Massachusetts. Mostly just a line in length, the entries describe social engagements with family and friends including the Huse, Hale, Everett, and Peabody families, neighborhood news and happenings, weather, church attendance, upper-class life, family news, a trip to New Hampshire, and daily activities. Also included are lists of deaths and marriages, food recipes, and lists of the people visited and received.
