Description
"Mrs. C. H. W. Hitchcock, Hadley, Mass., 1848" appears at the front of this 42-page volume, but it appears that the recipes were collected over a period of years. Mrs. Hitchcock's book contains numerous cake and cookie recipes, as well as treatments for burns and whooping cough and instructions for making ink. Some of the recipes are marked with their source. Cornelia Hubbard Wells Hitchcock was born on May 29, 1807, in Northampton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Roswell Hubbard. She married Charles Hitchcock (his second wife) on Aug. 21, 1843.
