Description
The three recipe books in this collection were written by women of the family of Lemuel Hayward (1748-1821), a physician descended from the prominent Hayward family, originally of Milton, Massachusetts. One of these books was compiled by Lemuel Hayward's wife, Sarah ("Sally") Henshaw Hayward (1768-1849).  To locate this book in the collection, scroll down to "Detailed Description of the Collection," then see II. A. "Recipe book, 1829."

The other two Hayward recipe books were compiled by daughters of Lemuel and Sarah Hayward. One book was at least partly the work of Caroline Hayward (1801-1834), who did not marry. The book includes recipes in various hands, some inserted printed recipes, and an index. To locate this book in the collection, scroll down to "Detailed Description of the Collection," then see II. B. "Caroline Hayward recipe book, 1815-1834." The other book was compiled by Harriet Stillman Hayward Wyman (1803-1883), who was the second wife of Captain Thomas W. Wyman (1793-1854). The couple had no children. Scroll down to "Detailed Description of the Collection," go to II. H., and find "Harriet Stillman (Hayward) Wyman Recipe Book, 1846"
