This 48-page cookbook includes recipes for many dishes that were popular in New England in the 19th century, such as Indian pudding, alamode beef, souse, roast turkey, goose, and beef. It also contains household remedies, instructions for getting rid of pests, and recipes for cleaning preparations and fragrances. Multiple recipes have been taken from Lydia Maria Child's "The American Frugal Housewife," originally published in 1828, including "excellent bread without yeast," alamode beef, batter pudding, bird's-nest pudding, cologne water, and toothpaste. The latter two recipes appear in an appendix that was added to Child's book by the thirteenth edition, in 1833.
