Description
This book contains approximately fifty-three recipes, nearly all for cakes, cookies, tea breads, and candies, except one for chili sauce. The book includes many recipes that first appeared around the time of the Civil War and remained popular through the end of the nineteenth century, including gems (several, of various kinds), French creams (candies), popovers, feather cake, caramels, and Russian cream. The frequent use of the phrase "baking powder" and an instance of the phrase "box of gelatine" suggest that the book was written after 1860.
