Description
This item is part of the library's collection of the papers of Joseph Twyman. He was the father of Joseph Warwick Twyman (1808-1885), whose account book and recipe book is part of the collection. Joseph Warwick Twyman was a planter and slave owner in Fredericksville Parish, in Albemarle County, Virginia. He married Elizabeth Crank in 1834. The couple had eleven children, including a daughter who died in infancy and a son, Walker, who died fighting for the Confederacy. The library record does not indicate if Joseph Warwick Twyman was the author of the recipes written in his account book. They may have been compiled by his wife or some other individual.
