Description
This 192-page book was written by Narcissus Luttrell (1657-1732), an English historian, diarist, bibliographer, and, briefly, Member of Parliament. Luttrell is primarily known for his Brief Historical Relation of State Affairs from September 1678 to April 1714, a chronicle of the parliaments of England and Great Britain, which was drawn from his manuscript diaries and published in 1857. Luttrell had one of the largest and most diverse book collections of his time. Substantial portions of the collection are now held by several libraries in Britain and the United States, including Yale's Beinecke Library.

Luttrell's book about brewing ale and beer contains sections titled "Instruments and Tools used in & about brewing" and "Ingredients & Materialls of which the Drink is made," as well as tables for measuring beer and ale, calculations of the financial cost of buying versus brewing beer oneself, and different brewing methods and recipes. At the front of manuscript there is "An Index explaining the markes, for the Persons, from whom I have had the several Directions & matters herein." There is a table of contents in the back.
