Description

This commonplace book of approximately 160 pages is titled at the front: "Miss Elizabeth Leggatt Her Book / February the 6th, 1759 / Steyning, Sussex." The inside front cover contains genealogical information about the children of James and Elizabeth Irish, 1769-1807. The book contains arithmetic lessons and medical recipes written from the front of the volume and forty pages of culinary recipes written from the back. The culinary recipes include meat and fish dishes, puddings, "made dishes," cheesecakes, and sugar cakes. The library record states that these recipes "may be in a later hand."
