Description
This small recipe book is part of the library's collection of the papers of Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo, who operated a 66,000-acre cattle ranch near Petaluma, California, from 1836 to 1846 but lost nearly all of his land when California became part of the United States following the Mexican-American War. The book may have belonged to Francisca Vallejo McGettigan (1875-1962), who was a grandniece of Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo and who was active in literary and historical clubs. The book's unknown creator appears to have been a native English speaker and to have had access to London newspapers and publications. In addition to recipes for food and drink, the book contains medical and cosmetic recipes. The book has been dated approximately 1826-1835 by the library. A lengthy table of contents is included at the front of the volume.

The book is located in Subseries 1.6. Box 11. Folder 11. of the Vallejo papers.
