The book includes many recipes for large cakes (French, sponge, fruit, measure, cream of tartar, Federal), as well as recipes for small cakes and teacakes, such as jumbles, soft gingerbread, Exeter gingerbread, French puffs, and doughnuts. There are also recipes for lemon pies, lemon pudding, baked Indian pudding, cottage pudding, batter pudding, fritters, and various breads, including buttermilk cakes, cornbread, and brown bread. Among the savory dishes outlined are oyster patties, spiced oysters, codfish cakes, mock lobster, tomato butter, and minced meat. A diagram of a fancy meal is featured on a two-page spread.
