Description
Most of this 46-page book was compiled by Julia Knapp around 1863. Most of her recipes are for desserts and cakes, including several variations of lemon pie, ice cream, and cottage pudding. There are also several bread recipes (French rolls, biscuits, and Lost Bread) and a recipe each for an egg omelet and tomato soup. Most of Julia Knapp's recipes are attributed to people or the newspaper. A second author has added a handful of recipes to the book, four of which date from 1886. One of these recipes is "North Carolina Receipt Fried Apple Pie," attributed to Mrs. Carey L. Brewbaker. A loose recipe for "Eggless, Milkless & Butterless Cake," from Mrs. Young, is inserted in the book.

This book is part of the library's Manuscript Recipe Book Collection, 1793-1959. The catalog record contains a link to a useful finding aid.
