The front cover of this English volume of 14 leaves bears the title "Receipt Book, 1813-1835," written in ink. The signatures of Daniel C. Alston and of Edward Alston appear in red ink following several recipes, suggesting that they may have been owners or possibly authors of the book. The majority of the recipes are for wines, including ginger, orange, and elderberry, and for brewing and bottling beer. There is one recipe for baked mackerel. The book also includes medical, veterinary, and household recipes. Fourteen leaves of recipes that were laid in the volume are now housed in separate folders.
