This 94-page English recipe book contains two inscriptions: "Mrs. Polhill, Avon Cottage, 1827" and, on the front endpaper, "From Grandmama Polhill to Elizabeth Gilbert Polhill / 1850." Among its recipes is one for mead, an alcoholic beverage made from honey and flavored with herbs and spices.
