Description
This diary was kept by Mary Barr Jenkins Hardin (1824-1904), the wife of Charles Henry Hardin (1820-1892), a lawyer who served as governor of Missouri in 1874-1876, and who founded Hardin College in Mexico, Missouri. The couple married around 1842. The scattered entries, dated between 1854 and 1860, concern daily activities at home in Fulton, the country seat of Callaway County, Missouri, which was named for Robert Fulton, the inventor of the modern steamboat. The book primarily focuses on random religious subjects but also includes recipes. It is located in folder folder 4 of the library's Charles Henry Hardin papers.
