Description

This volume of 55 leaves contains a recipe dated 1634 on leaf 29r and a note regarding a lease, dated 1669, on the inside front cover. The recipes are organized in two sections, the first primarily medical and the second mostly culinary. Each section is separately foliated, and each has its own index. The two sections are each written in a different predominating English secretary hand. Both contain some additions in a few secondary hands. The foot-tall volume retains its original embossed sheepskin binding, which includes a floral device gold-stamped on both the front and back covers.
