Description
This 170-page recipe book was compiled by William A. Baker, of Winchester, Virginia, between 1806 and 1815. In addition to recipes for beer, wine, and liquor, the book includes remedies and formulas for cosmetics varnish, sealing wax, ink, and dyes. The volume also contains pen and ink sketches (tinted with watercolor) and detailed notes for the construction of a piano, as well as genealogical data concerning the Motier and Baker families.
