Description
This collection consists of twenty-eight homemade books of recipes, some handwritten, some composed of clippings cut from magazines and newspapers, and some a combination of the two. Some of the recipe books are compiled in volumes manufactured as account books or diaries. Others are compiled in in loose-leaf binders, exercise books, and memorandum books. There are two menu planners, one for luncheon, one for dinner, dated March-May 1897. The menu planners feature French dishes, except for a "Children's Supper" menu, which lists simpler dishes.

The collection includes books compiled by three antebellum authors: Chas. P. Farwell (1834-1849); Julia A. Pennington (1855-ca. 1875); and Anne H. Foster Tewksbury, Bangor, Maine (1862-ca. 1866). The other authors are later.

The collection was made by Eleanor T. Fordyce.
