Description
This English recipe book was written by two unknown individuals, the first of whom began the book around 1824, and the second of whom wrote the recipes that are dated between 1859 and 1871. Most of the recipes are culinary. The book outlines many dishes, both savory and sweet, that were widely popular in Britain at the time, such as fish stuffing and Bakewell pudding, as well as some relatively uncommon dishes, including egg cake, German dumplings, pumpkin marmalade, Southwell sauce, and Spatten cakes. There are many recipes for wines, including blackberry, currant, damson, ginger, gooseberry, grape, Madeira, maison, noyau, and raisin. Some wines are outlined in more than one recipe. Many recipes are attributed. Among the contributors are Mrs. Hills of Baythorne End and Mrs. Archer. Some recipes are pasted in the volume.
