Description
This 120-page English commonplace book is written in two hands. The inside back cover contains a note describing the distance from Effingham to High Beach as 1440 paces, signed "J. M. Jul. 12 1723. The book contains a range of material, including approximately eighty-five recipes for food and wine such as "country sausages" and "To pickle Bacon." Some of the recipes appear under the heading "Receits in Cookery, Wines etc. collected by Mrs. S. Heymore, Copd. Feb. 15. 1722/3." There is a table of contents for the cooking recipes on page 43; a lengthier index of recipes appears at the end of the volume.
