Description
This collection consists of notebooks containing eighteenth-century dinner menus, which show methods of serving, side dishes, sweets, and so on. Each menu identifies the place where the dinner was held (such as "Mr. Masters of New Hall"). Most menus contain comments or critiques about how the meal was prepared. Eight recipes are also included: buns, preserved pears, preserved melons, potted lobster, potted beef, brawn (pickled pork), puffins a la mode (with chicken), turkey a la daube, and how to keep peas until Christmas. The menus are associated with the Tarleton family, who were merchants in Liverpool, England. All of the material is photostats.
