Description

"Receipt Book, 1810" is handwritten on the cover of this vellum-bound volume. A table of contents for the first seventeen pages is written in pencil on the first leaf. The remainder of the book is written in ink. The front of the book contains culinary recipes for soups, sauces, Indian curry, meats, vegetables, puddings, and cakes. There are also recipes for ales and wines. The first twenty-seven leaves of recipes are all in the same hand. The next twenty-one leaves are in other hands. Some of the recipes in this section contain attributions or are signed. Names include Miss Cathrope, Mrs. Crow, Miss Acton, Miss White, and W. Whitwell. The last recipe in this section is dated 4 March 1863. Beginning at the back cover and proceeding to the center are six leaves of medical recipes in several hands.
