Description
This cookbook of approximately 82 pages is predominantly in a single hand. The library has not determined the place of origin or the date of this book. However, its recipes for ginger wine, gooseberry wine, and fondu suggest that it is English, and its recipes for compotes and "gnockie" date it to the mid-nineteenth century or later. The book also contains recipes for cakes, fruit puddings, jellies, mutton, fish, and ham curing.  Three leaves laid in the volume have recipes for "New York Buns," "Washington Cake," and "Canadian War Cake" (on the reverse of a flyer for a Burlington, Vermont, hotel). The book was owned at one point by the Woodruff family.
