Description
This 83-page recipe book is in several hands. Most of the recipes are written lengthwise down the page, and a few of these are overwritten vertically by subsequent recipes. Some recipes bear dates between 1828 and 1844; one item laid in is dated 1848.

The volume is primarily composed of culinary recipes, including recipes for black hog's pudding, "soup for the poor," curries, puddings, cakes, jams, jellies, ginger beer, ginger wine, and currant wine. In addition, instructions are given for preserving and pickling fish, mushrooms, onions, red cabbage, gherkins, oranges and lemons. A few medical recipes and a "receipt for rendering shoes impervious to wet" are also included. A number of recipes are attributed, including a recipe for Scotch Woodcock that is credited to Lord Egremont, Petworth, possibly George O'Brien Wyndham Egremont.
