1850-1920Description
This volume consists of culinary and household recipes, poetry, and prose written by several different individuals in an account book. The earliest recipes and the poetry are in the same hand, apparently that of Ellen Chapen; later hands have added recipes in ink and pencil. A number of items are laid in, including printed recipes and manuscript recipes in several hands (some written on prescription stationery of E. C. Patterson, M. D. of West Winfield, New York). The culinary recipes outline cakes, cookies, brown bread, Boston ice cream, and pickles, including chow chow. Recipes are attributed to Mary D. E. Beals, Bessie Brown, Mary Brown, Em Talbot, and others with the surnames Shan, Eldridge, and Thomas.
