The library has tentatively determined the start date of this manuscript based on the handwriting of some of the recipes, which it describes as an "Elizabethan secretarian [sic: secretary] hand." English recipe manuscripts begun before 1625 are exceedingly rare. The book contains pages numbered 17 through 81, with a few minor gaps in the pagination, as well as four unnumbered leaves. There are nearly 100 culinary recipes and approximately 145 medical recipes.
