Description

Compiled by Anne Virginia (Watson) Archer (1826-1920), this cookbook is written on unlined sheets of paper folded together, without a cover, and numbered starting with page 25 and ending with page 44. The recipes include Calves Feet Jelly, To salt beef, to brine beef, and several desserts (pages 25-29); Muffins, Brandy Peaches, Cheese Cakes, Shrewsberry Cakes, Lemon Pudding, Cocoa-nut Pudding, Potato Pudding, Boiled Jamy (attributed to Mrs. Ritchie), Blanc Mango, Currant Jelly, and Egg Nog (pages 30-36); and three recipes for fruit preserving, To preserve fruit fresh, To preserve pine apple, Directions for making preserves (pages 37-41).  

The recipes on pages 41-44 are all attributed to different women: Terrapins (Mrs. West Robinson) Fruit Cake (Mrs. Pegram), and To pickle Lemons (Mrs. W. Jordan). The following names are written upside down over a recipe on page 40, in a different hand: Nannie H. Archer Nann N.H. Arch H. Miss Jnhu Halsow Halse. The bottom edges of many of the pages appear to be slightly burnt.
